Cryogenic Valve

Petrosadid: Cryogenic Valve

It generally is accepted in the oil and gas industry that the cryogenic temperature range starts at -238° F (-150° C). In addition to this temperature range, certain gases are considered “cryogenic” because they take more than just an increase in pressure to compress their volume. Anything warmer than the cryogenic range up to 37° F (3° C) is called “refrigeration.

Understanding where cryogenic temperatures start is very important to valve selection. There are a number of things to understand about cold temperatures when considering how to select a valve that will work over a long period of time.

While there are not strict guidelines for valve type in cryogenic service, there is a trend to select quarter-turn ball valves for their tight shut-off capabilities. This quarter-turn motion is also found in high-performance and triple offset butterfly valves. For larger valve sizes, gate valves often are utilized over ball valves, because ball valves can be more costly. However, with a ball valve, you pay more up front,” but will save more later on in terms of valve performance over time. As for the type of piping connections, flange and welded configurations are used mostly for cryogenic service, although customer preference typically determines which type is used.

Cryogenic Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves

Cryogenic Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves Cryogenic service valves are offers safe, prevents frost or ice formation around the packing box area and minimizes heat transfer in the operating fluid itself. specially designed for the production, storage and transport of liquefied gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, LNG, argon and helium, etc. All valves are produced with extended bonnet, enclosed vapour chamber to keep the stem packing exposed only to vapour, and thus ensuring proper function.

Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve Description

The trunnion ball valve is a form of quarter-turn valve which uses a hollow, perforated and fixed/supported ball to control flow through it. A trunnion mounted valve means that the ball is constrained by bearings and is only allowed to rotate, the majority of the hydraulic load is supported by the System constraints, resulting in low bearing pressure and no shaft fatigue. The line pressure drives the upstream seat against the stationary ball so that the line pressure forces the upstream seat onto the ball causing it to seal. The mechanical anchoring of the ball absorbs the thrust from the line pressure, preventing excess friction between the ball and seats, so even at full rated working pressure operating torque remains low. This is particularly advantageous when the ball valve is actuated because it reduces the size of the actuator and hence the overall costs of the valve actuation package.

Cryogenic Swing Ceck Valves

Cryogenic service valves are offers safe, prevents frost or ice formation around the packing box area and minimizes heat transfer in the operating fluid itself. specially designed for the production, storage and transport of liquefied gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, LNG, argon and helium, etc. All valves are produced with extended bonnet, enclosed vapour chamber to keep the stem packing exposed only to vapour, and thus ensuring proper function.

check valves Description

Swing check valves are best fit for horizontal pipeline installation. Special cases can be evaluated and developed upon request. For small valve sizes, a vertical installation (only with upward flow) is still possible, but for heavier weights of discs chattering issues can occur. Dampers or counterweight shall be then provided.
